N.Y. lawmakers reject gay marriage bill

Today New York law makers rejected a bill that would permit gays the right to marry. The article informs us  that gay coulples in N.Y. currently are entitled to many of the same rights and protections under the law as married couples. From my perspective this means that the members of the N.Y. senate are voting for rights to be granted to individuals not with a  duty to the constitution in mind, rather voting for rights to be granted to individuals based upon there personal convictions. Just as members of the U.S. senate wronly voted many years ago not to immediately ablolish slavery.

I believe that not allowing gays to marry prents them from pursuing a basic right granted to them under our constitution, the right to the pursuit of happiness.  If N.Y. law makers recognize that gays couples should have some of the same pertections as married couples under the law, which they do. Than they should also recognize their right to be joined as one throhgh marriage.
