Union Leader arrested, charged with bribery

Unfair Bribery

The article, “Union Leader arrested, charged with bribery” highlights the unethical conduct that can so easily become associated with business. The head of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Edward Rodzwicz, is accused of soliciting and accepting $20,000 in bribes from a lawyer in St. Louis. After receiving the bribe, Rodzwicz would then allow the lawyer to remain on a list he should have been taken off. The attourney was supposed to be removed from the list for ethical violations. This was considered a huge breach of all union members trust.

I believe this issue is completely unethical. It does not allow for fairness among lawyers. The lawyer in question was given an unfair advantage because of his use of unethical behavior. He already took advantage of the system by violating ethical standards and then turned aroung and did the same things through bribes. His behavior is unfair to all union members and all lawyers that are behaving ethically.

The biggest problem with bribery is that it takes away the motivation to be ethical or create value to a customer. If one knows that they can just put money in someones pocket or do a couple favors to receive a huge job then it does not matter their previous work or if their company name is reputable.
