Is Money Tainting the Plasma Supply?

December 5, 2009 1 comment

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/06/business/06plasma.html?ref=us

This article is over the debate of poorer Americans and Mexicans having to depend on being paid to give blood donations every week. Some people have to do what is necessary to make ends meet. The American government is questioning why pharmaceutical companies are paying these under priveleged people $30 per visit while companies are making $300 off of them. Some claim that we should be depending on using the under-priveleged’s blood due to higher usages of drug abuse.

I have 2 views on this article. First I believe that these disadvantage people should have the privelege of recieveing money for their blood donations. It can make a difference in their lives and help keep them end their families alive. It can be considered another form of unemployment money for some. I understand the concern because of the higher usage of drugs, but if that is the case doctors should come up with a better way of cleaning the blood donations so they are not dangerous to use. See how much the pharmacy companies make selling drugs and other products is unreal. We all know they make tremendous profits, but something is being done about that in our government today. Whether we like it or not universal health care is eventually going to be put into effect in America. This will have an affect on the pharmacuedical companies prices and ultimately let the government control these prices.

Baucus Acknowledges Recommending a Woman He Was Dating

December 5, 2009 2 comments

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/06/us/politics/06baucus.html?_r=1&ref=us

This articleis about Senator Baucus recommending to appoint his girl friend to federal prosecuter in Montana. As soon as the media started to criticize this decision she pulled out of the race for the position and he took her out of the race as well. This man who is a very powerful man in Washington needs to make better decisions. It is not looked highly upon when a U.S. senator promotes his girl friend to a powerful position. This is looked at as unfair puttin everyone else who may or may not be better for the job than his girlfriend. He should’ve realized that from the beginning instead of making a poor decision.

Iran Will Not Quit Treaty, Its Nuclear Chief Asserts

December 5, 2009 Leave a comment

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/06/world/middleeast/06iran.html

This article is about Irans defiance of the United Nations by stating they are going to commense construction on 10 uranium enriched facilities. They agreed to a treaty with the U.N. to stop the building of these facilities. They claim they will have these facilities up and running in 6 months when at the same time their first facility hasnt even began working yet and it has been 2 years.

I think the Iranian government is trying to cause some attention for themselves. They know that the U.N. is breathing down heavy on them to stop their nuclear weapons project. If they continue to build these nuclear facilities it would force U.N. forces to go into Iran and over take those facilities and most likely the Iranian governement. This could ultimately spark a huge war and should be taken very seriously. Pre-caution should be taken at every measure to try and prevent a war from occurring.

.Brooke Astor’s son: I’m too sick to be imprisoned

December 5, 2009 Leave a comment

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091205/ap_on_re_us/us_brooke_astor

Brooke Astor an 85 year old man is trying to fight off a prison sentence claiming that any sentence for him will be a death setence due to his old age. He is being accused for First degree Larceny that can last up to 25 years long. He is accused of being money hungry and couldnt wait for his 105 year old mother to die back in 2007 in order to inherit her money. He called many of his “high class” friends to write letters to the judge and persuade him to let Brooke stay out of jail stating he is too sick to go to jail.

Personally I think this man should go to jail. He should have to pay for his actions no matter what the consequence should be. Everyman is created equally and why should they be prosecuted differently due to their age if past the age of 18? This is a question of morality in this situation. On one side the man clearly deserves to be sentenced to prison due to his crimes. On ther side he is an old man with poor health and has a good chance of not being able to survive in prison. Both sides have valid arguments.

Tiger Woods Scadal

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/12/04/tiger.woods.tabloids/index.html

This article is about he recent Tiger Woods affair. This new event in the celebrity world is causing quite a mess. Tabloids are making up new stories every day. Different rumors are being spread everywhere through out the U.S.. Even though the man is a celebrity do you think he deserves all of the attention he is recieving?

Personal I find much of the general response to Woods’s situation hypocrtical. The world as we know it today developed a “sleaze” mentality with everything having something to do with sex. Whether it be T.V., music, or newspapers everything is sexual. He is acting the way as any other man would today in normal society and still he is gettin criticized for his actions.

In real estate, nesting is the new flipping

http://money.cnn.com/2009/12/04/real_estate/remodeling_picks_up/index.htm?cnn=yes

This article is about struggling homeowners deciding to stay in their house and invest in their own properties or get out their and invest in other propert. With the economy today and the low prices of house and remodeling your own house now is the time to invest. Prices are low every where in the housing market and if people have money to spendthis is here they need to spend it. This is a great ethical decision due to the fact the economy is slowing progressing back. Although it still is not obvious if our economy is going to rebound completely it could be a wise gamble to take for Investors and people in the real estate business.

Murder Suspect Dances In New Jail House Video

December 5, 2009 Leave a comment

This article is about a man named James Ward who was accused of murdering his wife in Orange County. This man dialed 911 and told them that he had shot his wife in their bedroom and then changed his story stating that it was suicide. The article here questions his actions in a jailhouse visit from his daughters. The article states that he was dancing and doing a striptease for his daughters. The media can choose to record these jailhouse visits and show them on national cable whenever they choose to and there is another one coming out with in the week.

In all honesty why does the media question this mans actions with speaking to his 2 daughters. At a gloomy time for all of them it seems to me that he could be trying to take his daughters minds of the situation and let them see that he is doing alright. This man is a father and cares for his children. A parent does not want their children to see them in distress. I understand using these jailhouse visit videos to maybe find more further evidence, but overall I think they should let this man be and deal with his situation.

Verdict in Italy, but American’s Murder Case Isn’t Over

December 5, 2009 Leave a comment

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/06/world/europe/06perugia.html

Amanda Knox, an American college student, studying abroad somewhere in the where-abouts of Italy has been found guilty in murdering her British roomate. This topic has been on high priority for the U.S. government. Even though there has not been anough evidence found to Find Ms. Knox guilty she still is. This question of the judicial system presents another question of Racism. Do you think that the Anti-American view had something to do with this conviction? I sure do. In any country including the U.S. the media has superior control of what it’s audience believes. Italy’s media has been portraying a poor view of the American life-style leading Italians to look down upon on Americans.

All-inclusive resorts demystified

December 5, 2009 Leave a comment

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/12/01/all.inclusive.resorts/index.html

When the term “All-inclusive resort” comes to mind what does one think? They think that they’re getting an all paid for vacation. They think by paying whatever amount it is to the resort will include all they’re meals and drinks as well as other accomodations. This articles informs us on how some “all inclusive resort’s” may decieve us.

As these resorts “decieve” they’re customers do you think this is an ethical decision? Personally I do not. Maybe if a local resort is trying to make a quick buck than yes it is ethical. But if this resort is trying to make a name for itself and attract future customers as well as bring back customers this is not an ethical decision. They need to inform their customer that not everything they do is going to be paid for or come up with a plan for customers to pre-pay for any event they plan to attend or take part of.

Why the Copenhagen climate talks matter

December 5, 2009 Leave a comment

http://money.cnn.com/2009/12/03/news/international/copenhagen/

This article is about the upcoming world wide conferences in Copenhagen, Denmark over the controversial global warming topic. It informs as on the broad overview of the conference and the views of some countries over this subject. Apparently most of the U.S. senate is going to be there as well and they’re going to be against any plan that is to be made. Oklahoma’s Semator is said to be the leader of the Senate’s view stating that global warming is a hoax.

Seeing that most of the country is aware of the affects of global warming and understand that we are being warned by scientists of the consequences of our actions. The U.S. citizens need to step up and take action. Our government is not fully backing up this attempt to stop global warming. Obama is not cutting pollution rate as much as other countries and for what reason? Money! Even though we are in a bad economic situation on this point the Earth’s well-being is more important. If we are consuming all of the earths resources at rapid rates and polluting at such high rates something needs to be done immediately. If that doesn’t happen there is a good chance some terrible event will happen that will ruin many lives.
