http://money.cnn.com/2009/12/03/news/companies/comcast_nbc/index.htm

This article talks about how GE and Comcast are going to join with NBC. The two companies will split the money to aquire the company. Multiple companies in the media may start to be involved and make complaints about Comcast. Antitrust regulators could be involved.

This is just another example of big multi billion dollar companies are just becoming richer. GE and Comcast are making it harder for smaller companies to make money. It just shows that big businesses can grow no matter what anti trust laws we have.

This article talks about how Obama is going to shift is attention from Afghanistan to U.S unemployment problem. Unemployment has risen over 10 percent since October. Obama is going to have a forum with different businesses to see how they can boost the economy. I feel that is about time that he addresses this issue. I feel that Obama should have addressed this issue sooner because as statistics as shown umemployment has grown. How can we boost our economy if people do not have jobs and making money to spend.

Beachfront Property

Justices debate rights of beachfront land owners

This article is about ocean front owners who are suing the state of Florida for taking away their property. Basically the sate has brought in sand to renew the beaches and after renewing them claiming the replenished beach as state property. The author has a point when he states that the owners paid a lot of money to buy the ocean front property and the state should not be able to take that away.

But, on the other hand, the state paid to renew those beaches through the people’s tax dollars and therefore the public should indeed have access the those beaches. So far the state has ruled in favor of Florida and the case has been appealed to the supreme court. I believe that the property should belong to the people who paid good money to own the ocean front property, what do you think?

This article is about Tiger Woods admitting that he has been unfaithful to his wife. He made a statement apogolizing to his family and to the fans. He also apologized to his sponsors.

I hope that his sponsors can accept his apology and realize that he is human and he made a mistake. His sponsors should accept that he made a mistake and he admitted. This is different from what happened to Kobe Bryant years ago because he was charged with rape. Tiger woods did not committ a felony. His sponsors should keep him and let him try to patch his life up with his family

Bernanke claims tools, will to reel in stimulus

This article talks about how Ben Bernanke the head of the Federal Reserve is steering the economy into the right direction. It states that different regulations are being made so banks are held responible for their mistakes. He says that he is working hard with congress to stimulate the economy.

I feel that it is refreshing to see that someone does care about our economy. The last couple of years the goverment has not done much to help and that is why we are where we are. Hopefully Bernanke is geniune about how what he is saying and can fix the economy.

Concentrated Solar Power

December 3, 2009 1 comment

In this article there is another technology which I have not heard of which is similar to the idea behind solar power however instead of  a solar panel. Mirrors are used to capture the sun’s heat which becomes steam that can be transferred to power electric turbines.  This technology could replace traditional power plants,  and or solar panel fields do to a lower cost of construction.

This article informs us that today less than 12% of the energy used in America today is generated from alternative sources. I believe it is our country’s obligation to commit to replacing non-sustainable energy souces with renewable energy sources as soon as possible.  It is our duty to leave our planet better off than the way we found it for future generations. Future generations should not bear the burden of dealing with decresing fossil fuel reserves and a declining environment do to our mismanagement and lack of action.

Heroes of the Environment 2009

December 3, 2009 Leave a comment

Takashi Yabe and his team of scientist have developed a process to turn magnesium retrieved from the ocean into a viable energy source, which would reduce our growning dependence on fossil fuels. This man and many of the scientist that work along side him have devoted many years of their lives to developing such a technology. Their process uses lenses and lasers  to harness the suns energy to bring the magneium to the necessary tempature at which it is considered refined. To me this technology is quite amazing and I personally can not wait to be able to run my vechicle or home for that matter, without releasing pollutants into the atmosphere.

This article is titled Heroes of the Environment 2009, so do you think these gentlemen are heros or were they just doing their jobs? I think as a global society we all have an interest in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels which are so damaging to the atmosphere. I think we all have a duty to support government spending on technologies which will make this possible.

Abercrombie & Fitch Bargains for a rebound

December 3, 2009 2 comments

Abercrombie & Fitch

Oh my Gosh! Is Abercrombie actually putting clothes on sale? According to this article they are but they are not too happy about it. It almost seems like forever Abercrombie has been know for its very expensive brand attached to preppy clothes that are only ok quality. With most of Abercrombie’s competitors slashing prices for the holidays price-conscious teens are now realizing they can find bargains elsewhere in addition to Abercrombie’s fashion trends not being totally up to date. Hollister is also guilty of the high marked clothing and also plans to mark down items as much as 40%. “Once you lose your brand loyalists-and you have to do a lot to piss them off-you don’t get them back” is alot of what has been said about Abercrombie’s super high prices. The company plans on opening some stores in Japan and Copenhagen in hopes of raising total revenue but is the damage already done? It is so unethical to charge almost $40 for a “printed tee” that is almost see-through (cheap quality). You could go to American Eagle and spend a little less and get better quality clothing for you money. I personally own one top from Abercrombie and it was a gift that didnt even fit because their large is a small (the women know what I am talking about). It is about time that Abercrombie realizes how much they are ripping people off and I am also very happy to hear that this generation of teenagers is wising up to Abercrombie’s pricing tactics!
